ONTARIO GOVERNMENT — ONTARIO GOVERNMENT

TORONTO — Preliminary design work is 90 per cent complete for the controversial Highway 413 project that is being spearheaded by the Ontario government.ÌýÌý

News the design work is almost finished signals there may be greater certainty on the preferred alignment of the highway, a release reads.Ìý

The province has identified 113 full and 57 partial properties not required for building the highway, with the remaining land being released beginning in 2025.Ìý

The design of all major structures, interchanges and crossings has also been determined. Now the province can begin releasing the unneeded land back to owners for various uses.ÌýÌý

Fieldwork, including borehole drilling and engineering to evaluate soil composition and bedrock depth, is currently underway. Construction is slated to begin in 2025.ÌýÌý

During construction, Highway 413 is expected to contribute $350 million to the province’s GDP every year.Ìý

Landowners impacted by the proposed refinements to the Focused Analysis Area (FAA) can visit  for more details, the release adds. A 30-day consultation for input is also posted on the .Ìý

Once the consultation is complete the government will publish refinements to the FAA.Ìý

Highway 413 will run from Highway 400 in the east to the Highway 401/407 interchange in the west, connecting the regions of York, Peel and Halton.Ìý

On Nov. 25, the  received Royal Assent, allowing the province to accelerate construction of Highway 413, the Bradford Bypass and the Garden City Skyway Bridge Twinning project, as well as create an accelerated process for the assessment of environmental impacts on Highway 413, the release states.Ìý
