Mississauga approves first 8,000 units for Lakeview Village project

Mississauga approves first 8,000 units for Lakeview Village project
LCPL — The housing target for Mississauga’s Lakeview Village development was increased from 8,050 to 16,000 through a 2023 Ministerial Zoning Order. Phase one was approved by Mississauga City Council May 1.

MISSISSAUGA, ONT. — Mississauga City Council has approved a plan of subdivision for parts of the 177-acre  development that will enable Lakeview Community Partners Ltd. (LCPL) to launch construction of the first 8,050 housing units at the Lake Ontario waterfront site.

The bylaw, passed May 1, provides for parkland, traffic improvements and a mix of housing with at least five per cent of units required to be affordable, stated a release.

The agreement also sets aside land for a Peel District School Board school site and requires more transportation analysis.

Council also approved a bylaw to execute a community benefits agreement with LCPL. Under the agreement, LCPL will provide the city with a $14-million contribution that will be used for the Lakeview Pier and other cultural amenities.

The city and LCPL are working through a provincial facilitator to finalize other agreements in order to proceed with the development including requirements needed to accommodate up to 16,000 residential units on the site. The site was originally zoned for 8,050 units but a  issued in May 2023 doubled the target to 16,000.

On April 10 the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Paul Calandra issued an order under section 49.2 of the Planning Act outlining the agreements required for the development of the site.

“This is a significant milestone,” stated acting Mayor Matt Mahoney in a statement. “The city has been working closely with the Office of the Provincial Land and Development Facilitator and LCPL for almost a year to ensure the increased density assigned for Lakeview Village will be built in an appropriate way.”
