Big-D and AHA celebrate Week of Giving to fight heart disease

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH. – The Big-D Group of Companies and the American Heart Association are marking a successful collaboration with the conclusion of the Week of Giving.

The Week of Giving, which brought the company’s business units together to raise awareness and support for heart health, took place from Sept. 14 to Sept. 21.

Big-D associates contributed to raising $25,925.79, surpassing the company’s initial goal of $20,000, a release said.

“Our 2024 Week of Giving built upon our annual commitment and was a tremendous success. I couldn’t be prouder of the collective efforts from everyone. Raising over $25,000 — and reaching a total of nearly $46,000 with the company match — shows just how dedicated we are to making a real impact in the communities where we live and work,” Big-D Companies CIO Shaun Orr said in a statement.

“Our partnership with the American Heart Association reflects the values we hold dear: supporting health, well-being, and each other. Together, we’re not only raising funds but also raising awareness for a cause that affects so many lives.”

Over 150 associates took part in heart walks and other activities aimed at promoting heart health, such as Big-D Signature Park City’s partnership with UDOT for a walk and highway cleanup, and Big-D Logistics’ donation of canned goods to Feeding America.

“The American Heart Association is humbled and honored to be part of the Week of Giving at Big-D Companies. It’s inspiring to see employees make strides to adopt healthy habits, step out for a good cause and raise critical funds to help save lives from the number one killer of Americans and Utahns – cardiovascular disease,” AHA Utah Division executive director Liv Sasaki said.
