On this episode of the Construction Record Podcast digital media editor Warren Frey speaks with British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) School of Construction and the Environment dean Wayne Hand about the school’s new construction of mass timber structures associate certificate, a blended online and practical program aimed at teaching ironworkers and carpenters the additional skills they need to work with mass timber products.
Hand also spoke about a new mass-timber student residence set to be built on BCIT’s Burnaby campus along with a Trades and Technology Complex which will integrate several skilled trades and technology classes together to give students a more holistic outlook going forward into industries starved for multidisciplinary labour.
