OTTAWA — The Government of Canada and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) are looking to tackle pollution in the City of Prince Rupert, B.C. by supporting an innovative wastewater management system.
The two organizations are investing $487,000 in a pilot project to install new wastewater treatment technology and research how the system can be naturally integrated.
“If successful, the new system could be replicated across the city, creating significant cost savings while improving water quality in the port of Prince Rupert, allowing for a healthier marine environment and greater recreational opportunities,” writes the government in its release.
The funds come through the Green Municipal Fund, administered by the FCM and funded through a federal endowment.
“It is critical for us to work together to address the ongoing challenges of the climate change crisis,” said Steven Guilbeault, minister of environment and climate change, in the release.
