VANCOUVER — Vancouver Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) says a fire that broke out on West 41st Street in Vancouver involved the collapse of a construction crane onsite, and that the fire ignited nine additional fires.Ìý
The address, 3477 West 41st Ave., is the site of a six-storey rental housing project currently under construction from Sightline Properties. The firm’s website said the residence would be going to market for rental in spring 2025. Online posts described the Sightline property as engulfed in flames. The developer did not return an email asking for comment.Ìý
VFRS said a large fire broke out at 3477 West 41st Ave. around 6:30 p.m. Aug. 6. Emergency personnel, including VFRS, Vancouver Police and BC Ambulance Service, arrived on scene immediately and began to put out the fires, provide medical services and evacuate residents.  Ìý
A statement the next day said the fire is no longer active and that firefighters continue to remain onsite to monitor remaining hotspots. Road barricades are in place to ensure safety, and the roads around the crane site will take longer to clear.  Ìý
All residents on the north and south side of West 41st Avenue between Blenheim and Collingwood and the south side of West 40th between Blenheim and Collingwood have been evacuated and cannot return home.
