Today is the Day of Mourning with virtual ceremonies being held across Canada as government, businesses, labour groups and safety associations honour those who lost their lives. Staff writers Angela Gismondi, Don Wall and Russell Hixson all covered Day of Mourning ceremonies in Ontario and British Columbia and they spoke with digital media editor Warren Frey about both the ceremonies and two recent deaths in the Toronto area involving construction.
Russell also spoke about one of his recent stories looking into a push by the BC Building Trades to make plumbed bathrooms a requirement on job sites to improve hygiene in the wake of COVID-19 and make the industry an appealing option for underrepresented groups. Russell’s also working on a story involving Merit Contractors in Manitoba violating election laws by not disclosing advertising spending.
