TORONTO –Â Crews are working day and night to complete concrete deck pouring and girder installation on the project in Toronto.
According to a recent Instagram post by the City of Toronto, work is continuing on the two southernmost lanes and crews began pouring concrete to form the base of the new roadway. Installation of the girders, the large beams that support the elevated roadway, and bent cap installation, the tops of the concrete support columns, are also taking place.
At the end of July the Ontario government announced it would help accelerate construction on the Gardiner Expressway by at least one year by providing up to $73 million to the City of Toronto on the condition that work may be allowed to proceed up to a 24/7 basis.
The current phase of work on the Gardiner Expressway involves the full demolition and rebuilding of 700 metres of elevated roadway from Dufferin Street to Strachan Avenue.Â
