COURTESY VRCA — The Vancouver Regional Construction Association is highlighting the ongoing success of its Bring Trades to School (BTS) program which showcases the trades to Grade 8 to 12 students. It will be expanding to more students in 2025.

VANCOUVER – The (VRCA) is highlighting the ongoing success of its Bring Trades to School (BTS) program which showcases the trades to Grade 8 to 12 students.

Launched in 2024, the program offers hands-on workshops in high-demand trades such as electrical, mechanical, carpentry, roofing, heavy equipment operation, virtual welding and masonry.

It has introduced over 80 students across three school districts to the the trades industry, explains a release.

A third of participants expressed interest in pursuing further trades training, while eight students secured part-time jobs or apprenticeships in their chosen fields.

The program also prioritized inclusivity, with tailored efforts to engage women and Indigenous students in trades education.

For 2025 the BTS will travel to West Vancouver, where 180 students from two high schools will participate in a day of trade workshops.

“Programs like Bring Trades to School are crucial for showing students what’s possible in the trades,” said Jeannine Martin, president of VRCA, in a statement. “We’re thrilled to see the enthusiasm from students, teachers, and industry partners. This program is not just an investment in our youth but in the future strength of BC’s construction and trades workforce.”
