BURNABY, B.C. – Simon Fraser University is adding 160 child care spaces on its Burnaby campus.
The Province of British Columbia’s ChildCareBC News Spaces Fund has put $16 million towards renovations of an existing building and the construction of a new building and the fund is jointly supported by provincial investments and federal funding under the 2021-2022 to 2025-2026 Canada-British Columbia Canada-wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement.
The facility will be operated by the SFU ChildCare Society, a non-profit organization that has been partnering with government to reduce child care fees for families at 11 other centres on campus, a provincial release said. This is their first child care centre funded through the New Spaces Fund.
The 160 new child care spaces will include 36 spaces for infant-toddlers and 124 spaces for children from three to five years.
