Pickering posts rec centre survey with three design concepts

PICKERING, ONT. — The City of Pickering east of Toronto has posted a inviting citizens to offer input into the Seaton Recreation Complex and Library and vote on their favourite of three design concepts.

The new facility will be located at the re-aligned Whitevale Road (future Alexander Knox) and Sideline 24 (future Burkholder Drive) in Seaton.

The survey will close Nov. 7. A final design proposal will be presented to Pickering City Council for review in the first quarter of 2025.

The facility will be Pickering’s first new multipurpose recreation complex since the Pickering Recreation Complex (now the Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex) opened in 1983.

The concept designs were prepared by architecture and design firm Perkins & Will. Construction is expected to begin in spring 2026, subject to council approval, and the facility is anticipated to open in spring 2029.

Proposed facilities and amenities include an aquatics centre with a 25-metre, six- to eight-lane pool and separate warm water leisure pool; gymnasium; fitness centre and studios; full library; multi-purpose rooms; twin-rink arena; walking track; and outdoor facilities such as a playground, splash pad and sport courts.
